Abstract

This study aimed to examine the predictive roles of perfectionism and time mismanagement in explaining procrastination-related stress among adults in Tunisia. A correlational descriptive design was used with a sample of 385 participants selected based on the Morgan and Krejcie sampling table. Standardized instruments were employed to assess procrastination-related stress, perfectionism, and time mismanagement. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires and analyzed using SPSS version 27. Pearson correlation was used to examine the bivariate relationships among variables, while multiple linear regression was conducted to determine the combined predictive power of perfectionism and time mismanagement on procrastination-related stress. Assumptions for regression analysis including normality, linearity, homoscedasticity, and multicollinearity were confirmed prior to analysis. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant positive relationships between procrastination-related stress and both perfectionism (r = .56, p < .01) and time mismanagement (r = .61, p < .01). The multiple linear regression model was statistically significant, F(2, 382) = 162.87, p < .01, with an R² of .46, indicating that 46% of the variance in procrastination-related stress was explained by the two predictors. Both perfectionism (β = .38, t = 7.19, p < .01) and time mismanagement (β = .44, t = 8.14, p < .01) made significant independent contributions to the prediction model. The findings suggest that both perfectionism and time mismanagement are significant psychological predictors of procrastination-related stress. These results underscore the importance of addressing both cognitive and behavioral contributors when developing interventions aimed at reducing the emotional consequences of procrastinatory behavior, particularly in educational and occupational settings.
